The series comprises the sources gathered and research conducted by Dr Patricia McMagh together with her cousin Dr Fay Liesching into the Liesching and related families in South Africa, resulting in a published book and detailed genealogical tables. Both were direct descendants of the progenitor, Dr Friedrich Ludwig Liesching, 1757-1846, and his wife, Luisa Seubert, 1762-1846.

The research covers the contributions of Friedrich Ludwig Liesching and two of his sons, Dr Carl L W (Louis) Liesching, 1786-1841, and Carl Friedrich Liesching, 1799-1832, to medicine and pharmacology at the Cape. It encompassed personal information about many other descendants and related families, and resulted in genealogical tables covering six generations of descendants of the progenitor.
