Transcript of interview with Henry Hompes of Johannesburg. Born in Krugersdorp in 1899. Father was born in Germany and mother in Holland. They immigrated to South Africa in 1876. Father was a wholesale merchant. In 1906 the family moved to Holland. When interviewee was 20 he worked in Batavia for some time before returning to South Africa. He was a businessman.
