Transcript of interview with Sydney Schapira of Cape Town. Born in Lithuania in 1902. Father was a general dealer, who immigrated to South Africa in 1905, supporting family in Lithuania. Interviewee immigrated to South Africa in 1922. Was a salesman in Cape Town from 1922 to 1924, and in Philadelphia, Cape, from 1924 to 1927, then owned a general dealer's in Mossel Bay from 1927 to 1965 and settled permanently in Cape Town in 1965. Was active in several communal and civic associations, including being mayor of Mossel Bay. Interviewer: Eva Horwitz.
