The Solly Disner Collection was donated to the Centre by Leah Levin in 2015.

Scope and content

The Solly Disner Collection contains documentation, publications and photographs pertaining to the life of Solly Disner, who immigrated to South Africa from Lithuania where he became a prominent sculptor. The picture postcards mostly reveal correspondence between Solly and family in Ponevez, in Lithuania – these have been translated from the Yiddish. Solly Disner was a prolific sculptor, and his work has been identified in numerous collections in South Africa.
