Scope and content

The Jewish song book was published by the German branch of the International Maccabi Association in 1930. The item contains two photographs glued in the verso pages, along with a note by Julian Schragenheim. The first photograph was taken of Else (Elsbeth) Schragenheim's gravestone at Weissensee Cemetery in Berlin after 1945. In 1942, realizing her probable fate, Elsbeth packed her few belongings and sent them to Sweden via the International Red Cross before taking her own life on 16 November 1942. This song-book was left to Julian Schragenheim as the handwritten words 'fur Julian' overleaf indicate. The book was rebound by Julian Schragenheim, 18 October 1981. The second photograph depicts a black and white photograph of Moses and Else Schragenheim in Berlin.
