The collection contains mostly studio portraits of the family of Barbara Rayson in South Africa, Russia and the United States from the 1890s to the 1930s. The set of studio photographs was donated to the Cape Town Holocaust Centre in 2012 during a trip she made from the United States, where the pictures had been kept in her family, although little record was kept of the identities of those family members in the images.
