Biographical history

Durban born artist, photographer and political activist. He became the head of the photography unit of the Second Carnegie Commission on Poverty and Development. He is the author and co-author of six books and curated numerous exhibitions.

Archival history

This photographic collection is a powerful and a moving statement about one of the most divided societies in the world. It displays the work of twenty of South Africa's documentary photographers, men and women who have been active in the growing movement for social change in their own country.The photographic essays and accompanying text take us on a unique journey beyond the cordon thrown up by the apartheid state.
