Scope and content

Interviews document the clothing industry from workers’ perspectives from the 1940s-1980s, with emphasis on the annual Spring Queen Festival. In this festival, garment workers produce their own outfits to take part in the Spring Queen Pageant. Themes include: family background; forced removals; job reservation; political unrest; racial discrimination; semi-final pageant at Good Hope Centre; shop stewards; Spring Queen Pageant in factory; trade union; work conditions.
