History

The collection reflects UMAC’s commitment to monitoring in an attempt to resolve violence in squatter camps, townships and rural areas. It played a prominent role by intervening constructively in the conflict and violence in the taxi industry and in schools. UMAC made valuable contributions to the Network of Independent Monitors (NIM), the Goldstone Commission and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). In addition it played a vital monitoring role in the 1994 elections.
