History
Charles Torriano was a lieutenant in the service of the East India Company in Ceylon from 1798-1801. Torriano was killed in 1801 leaving a wife and daughter. In 1805 she married Michiel Christiaan Vos (1759-1825), who had been appointed Minister in Ceylon. He had been Minister at Tulbagh and had initiated a great missionary revival in the Cape church. In 1809 they returned to the Cape. It was after Vos' death in 1825 that his widow Johanna Petronella van Geyzel (1781-1835), initiated claims to the inheritance left by her first husband.
