The Thelma Tyfield papers were presented to the University of Cape Town Libraries by Mrs A Kurgan on behalf of the estate of the Late Thelma Tyfield in 1984, and number approximately 1,900 items. The Collection consists of manuscripts and typescripts of her poetry, correspondence with publishers, including letters from, R. Harnett, A.C. Partridge, Jack Cope, William Plomer and others. The Collection also contains papers she has kept and used in her teaching capacity as English teacher and Headmistress. Also personal papers such as testimonials, degree certificates and letters from Professor J.C. Beattie, Professor Rabbi Israel Abrahams, Guy Butler, Thomas Mann and others.
There are also notes reflecting her interest in philosophy and religion, politics, J.C. Smuts and copies of speeches made on various occasions.
There are no restrictions on the use of the Collection but permission should first be obtained from the University Librarian.
