The collection consists of material gathered and prepared by Ruth Sacks for her PhD thesis entitled ‘The Islamic Community in Cape Town’. She died very suddenly, in 1971, when she was working on the final draft of her thesis. Ruth Sacks was a lecturer in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Cape Town. She graduated M.A. with first class honours in 1946. The collection was given to UCT Libraries in 2002 by Dr Selig Sacks and the Sacks family. Copyright of the material is vested in the Sacks family. There are no restrictions on access to the collection, but permission should first be obtained from the head of Special Collections at UCT Libraries.
