Scope and content
Front of notebook is entitled “Book of proceedings of Mount Nugent Loan Society”. Proceedings are dated 1838 and two meetings are recorded. P[ierce] Morton is recorded as attending the meetings and as one of the subscribers.
The other side of the book is entitled “P E Morton. Meteorological journal” and meteorological details for 11 and 15 Jan 1852 are recorded. Below the entry for 15 January is a note, presumably by Pierce Norton to his son or daughter: “These two pages afford a scheme of the way I would wish you to keep this Meteorological Journal. The readings are not actual ones being imagined only to furnish an example. Observatory Cottage, Cape of Good Hope, 15 January 1852”. The remainder of the book consists of the journal of P E Morton with irregular entries between 16 Jan 1852 and 1855, notes on lessons and sketches.
