Biographical history

Adv. Morris Alexander, K.C., M.P. was a member of the Cape Parliament (1908-1910) and Union Parliament (1910- 1946). He was a leading figure in the Jewish community in and on all occasions the champion of the underprivileged of all races.

The papers in this collection comprise inter alia material on Cape Coloured and Indian affairs, particularly working conditions, welfare, etc.; immigration and other problems of aliens; parliamentary bills (e.g. Coloured and Indian workers, industrial, income tax) and parliamentary election campaigns; Jewish affairs. Also letter-books and files of copies of personal and official correspondence for the period 1899-1946, casebooks containing his legal opinions, photographs and negatives.
