History

Mona de Beer (born Schwartz) was born in 1928 in the Transvaal. She married Zach de Beer, who became the leader of the Democratic Party. She contributed to and edited various magazines. She wrote several books: King Kong – A venture in the theatre (1960), Lion Mountain (1987), Who did what in South Africa (1988) as well as A vision of the past – South Africa in photographs, 1843-1910 (1992), which she co-wrote with Brian Johnson Barker. Unpuzzled: a crossword dictionary (2003) was published posthumously.
