Administrative history

The M&A Photograph Project is an on-going project that is designed to make the thousands of photographs in our manuscripts and archives collections visible. A full history of the project is available from Special Collections.
The objective of the project is to deliver a discrete collection containing all the photographic components currently housed in extant manuscript collections. The project will further deliver a standard procedure for incorporating photographic components in future accessions and accruals into the photograph collection.
The need for the project was occasioned by the following:
1. Improved intellectual control (arrangement and description; metadata)
2. Improved physical control (preservation and conservation needs; environment)
3. Improved access and visibility (facilitation of future digitisation projects)
