59 letters from Mr David Drummond, a pharmacist, to his three sons, Ronald, Alan and Teddie at their schools in Pietermaritzburg, Dec 1896 - Feb 1901. The letters are mainly written from Johannesburg and Boksburg, many of them written on paper headed East Rand Proprietary Mines Limited (Jul - Nov 1897 and Jul – Oct 1899) and Angelo Gold Mines Limited (Nov 1897 –Oct 1898).
The letters express his concern about the well-being of his sons, and also tell something of the life in the mining towns on the Reef. There are also references to the impending war.
Drummond died in April or May 1902.
