The documents consist of the papers of Marian Robertson, second editor of the book, researcher for Mendel Kaplan and author or part-author of a number of the chapters. Other writers did their own research, but the general research done by Marian Robertson, particularly into papers of Jewish institutions, was passed on to them. In other instances she did special research for a writer. As second editor, she also typed and did preliminary editing of all chapters, thus the entire manuscript in some of its many versions is with these documents. The book was typeset from the floppy disks. Mrs Phillida Simons was the textual editor; Mrs Tessa Kennedy was the professional proof-reader, Win Reinders and Associates produced the book – the publisher merely did the distribution. Marian Robertson was in overall control of the details of the production and acted as liaison between Mendel Kaplan, the writers and the production team. All the correspondence and most of the direct contact with the writers was through Marian Robertson. These papers therefore present the core of all the information about how the book was written.
