History
From 1973 to 1974, Derek was an architectural assistant at Sikkel, Hanson & Partners. From 1974 to 1977, he was a Research Officer at UPRU. From 1977 to 1979, he was a visiting lecturer at UCT. From 1979 to 1981, he was an Architect at Uytenbogaardt and Macaskill. From 1980 to 1984, he was in private practice. From 1979 to 1992, he was a Senior Lecturer at the UCT School of Architecture. From 1992 onwards he was an Associate Professor at the UCT Architecture School.
