History
Isaac Ochberg, Cape Town philanthropist, born in Uman in the Ukraine in 1879, who came to South Africa in 1895, and made a fortune from various business ventures, including property speculation, building projects, shipping, farming and scrap-metal dealings, died in 1938. His vast estate was divided between his widow, Pauline, siblings, and children, with large awards to numerous charities in South Africa and in Israel. Best remembered for the rescue of the "Ochberg Orphans" from the perils of Eastern Europe in 1921
