Scope and content
Six genealogical tables of the Cordier, Mostert, Marais, Nel, Pretorius and Swanepoel families living in Gamkaskloof (The Hell), near Prince Albert in the Western Cape. Tables form basis for book "People of the valley", by Brian M du Toit (1973). The research was anthropological in nature and served as a basis for demographic and kinship analysis. The genealogical tables could not be included in the book for technical reasons. Professor Du Toit believed however that the genealogies warranted preservation as they could form the basis for further research on the families or community, including by geneticists and psychologists.
