Jane Penelope Eyre is the wife of South African novelist, Wilbur Stephen Smith. She was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 1958 and attended St. Mary's School for Girls in Pinetown, Durban from the age of 5 until the age of 17. She kept up correspondence with Wilbur Smith during his years at Michael House boarding school for boys (1970-1976). They married in Cape Town in 1980 and currently reside in Constantia, Cape Town.
