History

Prof. Walker came to South Africa in 1911 to take up the post of Professor of History at the South African College, a post he held for 25 years. It was during this time that much of his writing was done. His works incl. the "History of South Africa," "The Life and Times of Lord de Villiers", "The Life of WP Schreiner and "The Great Trek". In 1936 he returned to England to take up the Vere Harmsworth Chair of Imperial and Naval History at the University of Cambridge and retired in 1951. In 1968 he returned to South Africa to settle in Durban.
