JGV van Soelen was an attorney who practised at the Middle Temple, England, and in South Africa. He was chairman of the South African Party in 1933. He was an advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa.

This small collection of papers comprises a scrapbook containing recipes for home remedies dating from the 1860s and 1870s, and documents and newspaper clippings relating to JGV van Soelen dating 1901-1933.
