Scope and content
This photo album serves to memorialize the experience of the victims and survivors of the Dachau concentration camp, which was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in 1933 - initially it served to detain political prisoners, but later expanded to include slave labourers, Jews, and other victims of the Reich. The camp was liberated on 29 April 1933 by the American Allied forces. The haunting images depict the dire conditions of the camp, including the corpses of prisoners, emaciated survivors, and even the crematorium on the site of the main camp.
