Scope and content

The series comprises 17 folders. Early correspondence includes recommendations from Lloyd Strauss-Smith’s singing teacher Aimée Parkerson dated 1939, a letter from her at the start of his career in London, 1947, and a letter he wrote to his mother and sister en route to active service in 1941. One folder contains professional correspondence conducted by Lloyd Strauss-Smith’s sister, Mrs Kathleen Poole, on his behalf, 1944-1966 and related programmes and news clippings and correspondence, and another his own professional correspondence, 1952-1982. Most of the folders contain personal correspondence and there are individual folders for letters from a number of former pupils making their careers abroad. There is a separate folder for letters of appreciation he received and greetings on special occasions, 1971-2011, and get well wishes received after undergoing cardiac surgery, c. 1981.
