History

The Civil Rights League was founded in 1948 in response to the National Party intention to remove "Coloured' voters from the Parliamentary Voters' Roll. The League's objectives were to protect existing civil rights in South Africa, extend these rights to all citizens irrespective of race, color or creed, and to inform the public of the civil rights to which they were,
or should be, entitled.
