The photograph album contains fifty-two photographs taken by an unknown Royal Air Force Air Gunner who was stationed in Celle at the end of the Second World War.
Celle contained numerous military bases, the military District Command and the Military Records Office. Even though the city contained numerous military installations, it was left largely unscathed by Allied bombing during the war, with the exception of targeted industrial areas and the railway system. When the Allied forces arrived in the city the inhabitants surrendered without resistance. The album chronicles the soldiers journey through different cities in postwar German such a Berlin, Wolfsburg and Hamburg, Bad Harzburg, Berlin and the British-Russian Boundary. It also contains several images taken at Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp.
