Scope and content

1. - Manuscript of Jan H Hofmeyr’s speech at the University of Cape Town centenary, 1929, with covering letter to Mr Carter, 5 Nov 1919.

2. - Original cartoon by Mac, 1912, entitled “ A Question of framing”.
Caption reads: Malan: Well! How do you like the picture?
Dr Walker. The picture is all right but the framing is ghastly!
The University Council after a prolonged debate passed resolutions condemning the main principles of the University Bill. (o/s)

3. - Original cartoon by Playford, portraying figure in academic gown, probably the Principal, standing with a spade and surveying a tree entitled “Cape Town University”. Behind him is a watering can labelled “Donations £175,000”. (o/s)
