Biographical history

A Z Berman was a soldier, politician and civic leader.
Born in Russia in 1894 he came to Cape Town as a young man. He became an accountant, and later a successful businessman. However politics and public life were his predominant interests. He entered the City Council in 1932, and served for 42 years.
In 1960 he was elected a United Party Senator. Mr Berman died in 1975.

This collection comprises 9 scrapbooks, mainly of newsclippings reporting A Z Berman's involvement in Council affairs, as well as some official documents, including election literature, and some official photographs.
Personal and official items - correspondence, invitations, election material, etc.
