Dr. J.P. Mohapeloa, pianist, singer and choirmaster who died in 1982, was a prolific composer. Over a hundred of his songs were published in book or pamphlet form and his predominantly chorale music exerted an enormous influence on the next generation of composers, not only in Lesotho but also in South Africa. This interview conducted in 1977 traces the composer’s musical influences and includes early life history and musicians he has worked with.
